Description

Abnormal increase of secretion from the sebaceous skin glands.

Persons most commonly affected: Between the ages of 20 and 50 years or older. It is more prevalent in males.
Organ or part of body involved: Skin
Symptoms and indications: Oiliness, patches of somewhat reddish colored, flaking skin on the face, neck or chest.
Causes and risk factors: Cause in not known, but it may be related to the yeast Pityrosporum ovale. Stress and neurological conditions are thought to be predisposing factors.
