Description: Caraway seeds have long been considered analgesic, anthelmintic, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antispasmodic, aromatic, astringent, carminative, cooling, digestive, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant, galactagogue, stimulant, stomachic and tonic. The Greek physician Dioscorides mentioned the seeds to aid digestion. The antispasmodic action soothes the digestive tract and its carminative action relieves bloating caused by wind and improves the appetite. The seeds stimulate the secretion of gastric juices and encourages expulsion of wind. They are useful in chronic diarrhoea and dyspepsia, for improving appetite and taste and are also useful in cold, counters heart irregularity caused by excess digestive wind, eases clamping period pain, phlegmatic cough and bronchitis. The seeds promote the onset of menstruation. They also build up the immune system of people who suffer severe allergies. They have also been credited with aphrodisiac properties and form an ingredient of most prescriptions for gonorrhoea.

Given shortly after childbirth they increase secretion of milk in nursing mothers. Also useful for breast enhancement.

Recommended Dosage: 1.5 to 6 g powder of seeds.
