Description: Cardamom is used as an acrid, antioxidant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, appetiser, aromatic, astringent, carminative, cholagogue, cooling, diaphoretic, digestive, diuretic, exhilarant, expectorant, sedative, stimulant, stomachic, sweet, tonic and flavouring agent. The volatile components of cardamom exhibit antimicrobial activity. The oil has antiaflatoxin substances. In herbal medicine, cardamom is chewed slowly to sweeten the breath, to check nausea and vomiting, as aphrodisiac, to soothe digestion, stimulate the appetite, used against dyspepsia, flatulence, colic and disorders of the body, often combined with purgatives to offset griping. It improves the flow of bile out of the gall bladder and prevents viruses from multiplying.

It is also reported to possess analgesic, antiinflammatory and cardiotonic properties. Also useful in asthma, bronchitis, kidney stone, urinary disorders and debility. It cures headaches and improves blood circulation. It is also useful in sexual disorders like impotency and premature ejaculation.


Dosage: 0.5 to 1 g powder.

Contraindication: This herb has no known warnings or contraindications. However, excessive use may lead to impotency.
