Allah the Allmighty said: "They will be given in it (i.e.in paradise) a cup (with something to drink) mixed with ginger."
In his Kitb al-Tibb al-nabawi;, Abu Nuaym mentioned a Hadith of Abu Sa'ad al-Khudri(ra)who said: "The king of Rūm sent a basket of ginger as a present to the messenger of Allah (swt) who gave a piece of it to everybody, and he made me eat it, too."
Ginger is hot in the second degree and wet in the first degree. It heats up the body, supporting the body to digest food and gently/ mildly softening the stomach. It is beneficial against the clogs of the liver which are caused by coldness and dryness. When it is eaten or applied (on the eyes), ginger is helpful against the blindness (ẓulmat al-baṣr, darkness of the eyesight) caused by wetness. It is helpful for sexual intercourse (jimā) and dissolves the thick gases, which accumulate in the intestines and in the stomach.
All in all, ginger is beneficial for the cold temperament of both the liver and the stomach. When one takes some ginger with two dirham of sugar and some hot water, it will work as a laxative and remove the mucuous substances from the body. Ginger is also part of the mixtures / pastes (majūnāt) which dissolve and drive out the phlegm. Sour ginger is hot and dry, it increases sexual power and the production of semen, heats the stomach and liver, supports the digestion, dries the phlegm accumulating in the body, and increases the memory power. Sour ginger is very suitable against the coldness of the liver and the stomach. Mixed with water, sour ginger dissipates the negative effects of eating fruits. Sour ginger makes the scent better and and the side effects of thick and cold foods are also
dispersed by it.
